| How to join |
First steps
- Contact the New Members Secretary with
your name and address and you will be sent a current "what's
on bulletin" bulletin for the coming month and a new members' information
leaflet/application form. The New Members Secretary will also be happy
to give you more information about MKIVC.
- You can also download a bulletin in PDF format from here
It will help us be more effective to prospective members like yourself,
if you also make sure you introduce yourself to the New Members Secretary
to let us know of your interest in the club. Your name and an email
contact would be a good starting point.
- There is no membership fee (to cover running costs of the club) for
the first month so you can come along to as many events as you like
and see if you would like to join.
- If you see an event you would like to attend (New members night is
often the best place to start) contact our
New Members Secretary and they will advise you of the precise details
of any chosen event (where, organiser details etc) and arrange for a
member of the club to be looking out for you. (When you become a member
your bulletin will give you the contact details of the event organiser
and so you will be able to contact them directly.)
- If you are unable to attend an event in your first month we will of
course send you a second "what's on bulletin"
for the succeeding month.
Applying for membership
- Take your information leaflet/application form to the events you attend and get a member of the committee to sign it for you (you will need four signatures in total).
- Submit your membership application and annual subscription to the
committee. They will consider your application at their next meeting
and you will be informed of their decision shortly afterwards. (This
is usually a formality as applicants are turned down very rarely. However,
as the Club is about everyone having a good time we reserve the right
to decline membership to anyone we feel might
spoil things for others).
- You could be a fully paid up member of MKIVC enjoying a whole new social life in a number of weeks.
- We always warmly welcome new members.
Subscriptions
- The basic annual subscription rates are £25 single,
£40 joint. Joint membership is available to two people
at the same address.
- Members who opt to be mailed a paper copy of the monthly events bulletin
need to pay an additional £5 to cover costs (which
comes to about £6 per year).
- Members who, on renewing their membership, have put on two or more
events in the previous year can claim a £5 discount.
If you put on a further 3 events you can claim a further £5
discount.
- Therefore if you put on two events and receive your bulletin by email
then the rates are £20 single and £35
joint.
- Subscriptions are required to cover membership of The Association
of Inter-Varsity Clubs, public liability insurance and the monthly running
costs of the club e.g.: publicity (advertising, posters, leaflets),
bulletins (printing), postage, website, prospective member packs, theatre
and YHA membership, etc.
- No-one profits from the funds and any surplus is used as cash reserves
or put back into the club - usually to our many subsidised events (Christmas
party and the Summer party receive the biggest subsidy - usually £5-£8),
and the odd equipment purchase (eg goal posts for the football, disco
equipment) all of which can be borrowed by members for free.
- As a member you can apply for one of your events to receive a subsidy
of up to £25.
- Our accounts are audited annually and all members can gain access
to the accounts.
